yes. imagine getting denied at the border or something because of data you shared with deep seek,WeChat or any other china centric service

Definitely would select the frowny face if that happened.

Might as well answer yes to the "are you a subversive" question

the US does that to you too, for not liking your opinions about particular parties or intelligence aparati.

I think martin_henk is fully aware of that and it's why of all the examples of how a government can use your data, he picked this one...

Are you actually planning on travelling out of the country right now? It's probably not a good idea even if you don't use Chinese products, which by the way you definitely do.

The people that travel out of the country are typically not the same ones aligned with the current administration. The vast majority of the MAGA base are more likely to not have a passport, while a large portion have probably never left their state.

wonderful... this is something I hope would come up going forward. I see this a little in the japanese electronic dictionaries still being developed and released

Yeah, ages ago, I installed all of Microsoft's Encarta on a CF card which I was using as a drive on my Fujitsu Stylist 2300ST --- it was way cool to be able to haul it out and look things up w/o a network connection (or a CD-ROM drive).

Wonder if that would run in a current version of Windows...

hope to see fefe back on the speaker list at some point in the future <3

Anyone got any news on his recovery? I was glad to see a new post on his blog this month.

Holy hell, I had missed that post

that post made me worry more tbh :(

common sense... no real need for digging into japanese culture and so on. really no idea why Mozilla is so disrespectful to it's volunteers. well, that sweet 400m a year from Google... no need for volunteers anymore, eh

For sure. Common sense <> common, etc… although it does seem relevant that it was specifically a Japanese-language sub-community who were reacting here.

I have to say it feels like a really familiar, NGO-flavored disrespect, though: “we’re doing this favor for underrepresented language communities,” regardless of whether they want/need it or not.

“There’s only X number of you having to shoulder the load in XX sub-community, don’t you want us to impose a bunch of ‘help’?”

Well, no, if the choice is between a formidable volume of slop and a smaller but well-executed volume of volunteer labor-of-love…

(…I say as a person very much without all sides of the story, and shooting from the hip a bit. I don’t mean to impugn anybody’s intentions, and I imagine at the end of the day we’re all on the same side here.)

Enlightened despotism, all over again.

mixed with good ol' white-man-saviour attitudes.

the old guard also got over rolled by the algo heavy media like TikTok or X... they don't effectively engage on these channels. young Japanese people don't own TVs

Hire OP, anthropic

I hope Meta already contacted him.

The concept of a pen tablet friendly 3d modelling app was pioneered by an indie dev many years ago: https://moi3d.com/

Rakuten hand was/is very small.

Couldn't get my hands on one so far as they don't sell in Germany. Could you elaborate a bit if you had the chance to try one?

Very sad story...

Really rad!
