Genuinely interested to hear from people in the field who can attest to the value of this telescope and research its helping us with. On the surface looks like (yet another) a terrible decision.

Very true - reminded me of this demo* as an example... on the surface looks trivial but potentially life saving.

Would love to see a load/unload dishwasher benchmark.

I recently created a video and didn't want to use my voice on it.

Rather than TTS I did STS (speech to speech) through Eleven Labs (you upload the video it alters the audio track to voice of choosing with some parameters you can control).

I showed it to a bunch of people and they could not believe it was non-human. The bit that got most was all the pausing, broken sentences ...essentially elements you don't put into text if your doing T2S.

An LLM over the original text could perhaps inject these elements though if prompted correctly.

Where is a good place to start with training SLM these days if you don't have the compute locally?

I rent cheap GPU based instances by the hour and run on those. Nothing fancy, but $20 can get you a decent amount of compute on a A6000 or H100.

'Intelligence is what you do when you don't know, -> came up somewhere, I think on LinkedIn but stuck in my head.

Best section for me. Many times I have taken the contrarian view. It doesn't always work, I do get it wrong (fail fast) but when it goes right you earn virtual credit against the person whom you took the opposing view. Its not something tangible but its there and the next time you lock horns they remember.

Very cool. Recommend walking through the curated story here first then exploring the menu visualization

Thanks! I've made that the top link and put the collection link in the toptext. Could go either way really...

Whats peoples thoughts on Tenstorrent - they were looking for funding on Hiive recently but that deal got pulled when Qualcomm rumours surface a week or so ago.

the tax exemptions make it very attractive place to hold cash versus bank accounts - if your a UK citizen google (or AI) - low coupon gilt investing.

Eh, for most people it's simpler to just use a cash ISA which can provide almost the same rates. Most people don't want or need to carry a huge cash float as opposed to other kinds of investment.

Well, yes, but after maximizing an ISA that's still an option. Also the government is clamping down on cash ISA.

I think they're clamping down on cash held in Stocks and Shares ISAs, not Cash ISAs.

As the government wants to encourage people to be invested and not hold cash, from '27 you'll only be able to add 12k in Cash ISA. They are planning to also change the limit on cash held on S&S ISAs to avoid an easy workaround for this limit

Ah I see, I wasn't aware of the Cash ISA change too, thanks.

That only works if the capital is already in an ISA or you want to invest less than £20k (soon to be 12k) though. It is common to use gilts to build a gilt ladder to have some level of guaranteed income for older/retired people. This allows you to build your own cheap annuity.
