Slack’s new WYSIWYG input box is terrible
Using wee-slack instead of the official Slack client is an easy win on multiple levels, including this one. I sincerely hope they never go out of their way to break/block it.

They're obviously aware of it. The #1 contributor to the project, both by commits and by LoC, works at Slack.
